Charming
The 1936(?) film with Freddie Bartholomew is remarkably faithful to the original story. I don't think any of the changes made by the filmmakers were gratuitous. How often can one say that? All in all a charming fairytale.

The Earl of Dorincourt almost makes this worth reading.
You probably have an impression of what Cedric Errol, AKA Little Lord Fauntleroy, is like, based on his mentions in popular culture. That impression is largely correct. Little Lord Fauntleroy is a tooth-grittingly saccharin goody-goody little boy with adorable blonde hair. He calls his mother "Dearest", if you can imagine. Not "Mom" or "Ma" or even "Mother", like a human boy, but "Dearest". Get thee back, Satan!Cedric is the son of an English soldier and an American woman (who is herself bursting with sweetness and light). Cedric's father, who died when Cedric was young, was the third son of the fabulously wealthy Earl of Dorincourt. These facts are set out, then the story begins with the news that, because of the unexpected death of his two uncles, Cedric is the Dorincourt heir. (This makes him Lord Fauntleroy. I am not sufficiently initiated in the arcana of English titles to understand why he has a title distinct from his grandfather's.) Cedric's grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt, calls Cedric to England to live with him.The Earl is a 70-year-old man. He is wicked and selfish and is universally feared and hated. In order to win Cedric over, he gives Cedric everything he wants that money can supply. This works in a way he doesn't anticipate. What Cedric wants is to help other people. Thus, in fulfilling Cedric's desires, the Earl is made to act generously. Cedric loves him for his supposed generosity. The Earl, like everyone else who encounters this adorable blonde weirdo, is totally bowled over by Cedric's cuteness and comes to crave his approval. In this way the Earl is redeemed. What makes the Earl an interesting character is that he is never totally redeemed. Internally he remains the same self-centered man as always. As he himself reflects near the end of the book, "He had not, indeed, suddenly become as good as Fauntleroy thought him". In fact, his internal egoism serves him well in a contretemps that rises late in the book, which I will not spoil. As a firm believer in the principle that acts matter more than motives, I find the Earl's redemption creditable. He even reminds me a little of Frances Hodgson Burnett's greatest character, the pinched, mean, spoiled little brat Mary Lennox, who is just selfish enough to take for her own what no one else wants.

Nice story:)
I like the story there are a lot of twists and that is why it’s so interesting.

Comparing versions
We first "read" this as an audio book a few months ago and loved it so so very much for the classic it is, one of the sweetest books ever written. (I will not review the book here other than to say if you are looking for the sweetest, most delightful ever family read-aloud this might be it.) I researched many of the versions available and finally settled on this copy with the original illustrations so that my children could see the "original" illustrator's ideas of what Ceddy, dearest and his grandfather, the great dog and the horses might look like. I am glad I did - the color plates (there seem to be about ten) and the pen and ink illustrations (many) are just lovely and I like that they not how a modern illustrator might depict them. That being said, it was published in 1911 and I'm not quite sure at this point I would quite hand it over to my 5 and 7 year old without mommy supervision. Like many older books, I will note that the font is nice and large enough for children and the spacing is nice and spread out for children to easily read. It is a classic older font style.

Optimistic Child Inspires Others
“You know you always remember people who are kind to you.”I wasn’t planning on falling in love with Little Lord Fauntleroy but I guess the book is correct...no one who meets him can help loving him. The truth is that there really are 7 year olds in the world who are this kind, loving, and optimistic. I hope Fauntleroy and the other bright eyed children of the world can manage to hold on to that optimism and wonder for as long as possible. This book made me tear up in a good way. And it made me so so happy. Loved it.

a wonderful printing of a delightful story
first, allow me to say that i am quite enjoying these puffin classics editions of some of my favorite novels!this is the story of little cedric errol, having recently lost his british-born father, being plucked from his american life to fufill his duty as the future earl of dorincourt. he is summoned by his crusty grandfather, the current earl of dorincourt, who is disliked far and wide for his tyrannnical behavior. cedric soon becomes little lord fauntleroy, and he and his mother ('dearest') are taken across the atlantic to england.the story is filled with changes, difficult situations, and the redemption of those most in need of it. cedric errol is a unique little boy, and the power of his positivity is infectious.a bonus here with the puffin classics is the addition of backstory included at the end of the book. here you can learn more about the author, the stories, the characters, and so much more. what a delightful thing to include!i have purchased most of these puffin classics editions, and will certainly look for future additions to add to my collection.

Great book!!!
I had to read this book for school, and it was great! It was a light read but entertaining. The main character is so loveable and it was just a great book overall! I suggest you read it. What are you still here for? Go!

Mistakes all over the text!
It seems the text was scanned from an old book with a very poor quality and printed without checking manually (by human, not machine). Example: "...a sort of green-grocery at the corner. lie wondered what kind of..." Pictures are very bad quality too.

MOLTO PIACEVOLE.
Spedizione, assistenza e professionalità Amazon come sempre insuperabili.

Delightful
This is one of the loveliest books I have read. It is charming, innocent, and has plenty of humour.I personally think that everyone from the age of 6 to 106 should read it! (I am 68)
